Why the Gartner Magic Quadrant is a Developer’s Secret Weapon

article in Japanese

The 2017 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Data Integration Tools will help catapult your latest Talend project from “your best-kept secret” into a organizationally-recognized example of genius.

We all have our ‘dirty little secrets’, if you will, don’t we? Maybe you threw a party at your parent’s house in high school when they were on vacation.  Maybe that buddy you used to hang out with in college wasn’t really John Travolta’s kid—just somebody with the same last name. Or maybe you gave a fake address when registering your kids for school so they could qualify for a different district

We all have little things we do that may be ‘breaking the rules’, but it’s usually done for a greater cause…

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have a couple ‘shadow IT projects’ myself (and if anyone from Talend IT is reading this, I am sorry…. ish). Look, these things happen…we’re a curious bunch who like to fix things or solve new problems and we generally don’t like it when innovation is blocked by non-technical factors, especially when we have a deadline. It simply doesn’t compute. I am sure many of you are taking this same approach when you build data integration jobs using Talend Open Studio in the shadows of IT because often, open source tools are frowned upon by corporate IT department, a.k.a. ‘the Ministry of No.’

When it comes to resources you can use to help your IT team understand the value of your latest open source-based, data integration project, and why they should let you continue working, I’d recommend reading and sharing the new 2017 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Data Integration Tools, a complimentary copy of which you can download HERE. We believe this report is ‘the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch’, if you will, that will help developers everywhere build a business case for using Talend. The report positions Talend in the ‘Leaders’ quadrant—both for its “Completeness of Vision” and “Ability to Execute.” It’s also important to note that Talend remains the only vendor with an open source offering in the ‘Leaders’ quadrant Improving our position in the Leaders Quadrant speaks to the depth and breadth of our solutions and ability to deliver an open source-based integration platform purpose-built for modern cloud and big data environments,

What does that mean for developers like you? It means you now have ample substantiation for shining a spotlight on your former shadow IT project. You can confidently call the IT manager in and say “Look what we’re doing with open source software. We’re getting a lot more value from our data, we’re beating our time-to-market goals, we’re paying a lot less (FREE) —and we’re doing it all with a Gartner Magic Quadrant Leader.” (Quick tip: It helps to have the report on your desk so they don’t have to search for it as well).

Something that is equally important—but you don’t necessarily need to mention this to your IT manager—is the fact that using an open source product like Talend Open Studio can be great for your career.

So spend a few minutes today to take a closer look at the report, which lists specifically lists Talend’s various product and business Strengths and you’ll have even more reason to take pride in using Talend.

So whether you’ve already been using Talend Open Studio or you’re just starting to tinker around with its capabilities (under the cloak of darkness), it’s time to bring it out in the open. Remember that scene from Caddyshack, when the caddies at that hoity-toity swimming pool finally get their five minutes to swim? This is your time to make a splash. Go ahead—take the plunge and show off your open source projects…just leave the Baby Ruth’s at home.
