Under the theme “Open Source Collaborative Innovation, The Way Forward”, OW2 ran their annual conference OW2con’13 earlier this month at the Orange Labs near Paris. A very interesting program, well balanced between the community and practical angles of open source development and deployment, was featuring prestigious speakers including Anna Nietyksza from the European Commission, Thierry Souche, a Senior VP from Orange Labs, and of course Talend’s very own Cédric Carbone (see full program here).
As is now the tradition, OW2 awarded a few projects and vendors with their prestigious OW2con'13 Best Project Awards and Talend was honored with the “Market Award” for “establishing itself as an indisputable leader on the market.”
We are of course proud of this award that not only recognizes Talend’s clear market success, but also demonstrates that open source and commercial success do not need to be viewed as opposite, but complementary. I won’t be turning this post into a case for commercial open source, but rather redirect interested readers to this video of another presentation from OW2con: the one I delivered on open core, titled “Making Tough Open Core Product Decisions”.
Thank you to the OW2 jury, and of course congratulations to the entire Talend Team and Community for this award!
